Famous love quotes – What the stars have to say about love!!
“Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.” -St. Augustine
No doubt, this is probably one of the most famous love quotes of all time.
Incidentally it was also one of the first love quotes that I ever heard and I can still visualise my Mother reciting this famous phrase when I was just 13 years old.
Is it fair to say that a 13 year old could relate to such a phrase at this tender age?
Most probably not but at the time I truly believed I knew everything that there was to know about love or famous love quotes; no doubt like most 13 year olds believe.
To bring a long story to an end without dragging you unnecessarily through the quagmire of pain and misery that my first relationship transpired to be, I had been dumped.
To add insult to injury, I had been dumped by first ever girlfriend because she fancied my best mate more than she fancied me.
I know what your thinking. Another typical ‘Greek tragedy’ unfolding in a regular adolescent upbringing.
But no pain is alike when we lose in love and each loss is alike to the mourning stages of death. It doesn’t matter if your 13 or 73, love is love and the loss leads to an emotional upheaval.
So with my heart truly broken and with big sad tears streaming my face I asked my Mother ‘Why’?
“Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.”
It is only now, 25 years since that day that I understand the meaning of this famous love quote.
We all lose and gain when it comes to love. Being famous doesn’t mean you are immune to this fact. In most instances the chances for happiness and ever lasting love can sometimes become even rarer for the famous as there are more tempting factors that may lead them astray.
